Spinal Decompression Therapy in St Albans

Chronic pain can become physically and mentally debilitating over time, even with treatment. In some cases, further intervention may be necessary. As an alternative to surgery, patients may elect to try non-invasive spinal decompression therapy.

Select Chiropractic is thrilled to make this therapy available to our patients. We are passionate about helping members of the community live healthier lives.

What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

A natural and conservative approach to pain reduction, spinal decompression uses a machine which produces an intermittent sequence of pulling and release. These are calibrated to the patient’s condition and based on their care plan.

Prior to starting treatment, Darcy determines the weight of the machine’s pull and sets the computerised program. The patient is strapped in position, and the traction pulls and releases.

The therapy gently stretches the spine creating a negative pressure between the vertebrae, allowing the disc to move back into its proper position. The chiropractor’s job is to ensure the area is structurally sound, so the disc is more likely to stay in place.
NEW Patients

Can It Help Me?

After going through our standard new patient protocol, our chiropractors will assess whether spinal decompression therapy might help you. If you have an MRI or CT scan which indicates a bulge in the area, this procedure may offer relief.

The need for spinal decompression therapy usually diminishes after 3-4 months. Once pain levels have decreased, most patients continue chiropractic care to keep their spines healthy. Regular adjustments help maintain the body’s natural alignment, relieving any lingering pain.

Spinal decompression therapy has provided an alternative for patients with:

  • Bulging discs, herniations and protrusions
  • Sciatica/nerve pain
  • Disc compression/degeneration
  • Stenosis
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Lumbar/cervical radiculopathies
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Arm/leg pain and numbness
  • Chronic neck or back pain that’s not responding to traditional treatment
